In-home palliative care with Luxe Care

This week is National Palliative Care Week (NPCW). For 2025, we’re asking What’s your plan?” to raise awareness. This is an ideal catalyst for addressing what matters most to you at the end of life.

Planning empowers and respects an individual’s choices during their last years, months and days of life. Having a plan in place will remove stress and confusion in decision making and allow for focus to remain on providing comfort and care.

Palliative care is person and family-centred care provided to people of all ages with terminal illness, helping them live as well as possible, for as long as possible.

As the field continues to evolve, some emerging insights shaping palliative care include:

  • Early integration – Introducing palliative care sooner improves patient comfort, communication, and planning.

  • Trauma-informed care – A growing focus on recognising how past trauma impacts current experiences and responses to care.

  • Cultural safety – Deepening our understanding of culturally respectful care, especially for First Nations and LGBTQIA+ communities.

  • Family and carer support – Expanding resources and strategies to include and uplift those walking alongside the patient.

  • Clinician wellbeing – Acknowledging moral distress and offering tools for emotional resilience and team debriefing.

  • Strength-based approaches – Supporting what still matters, still brings joy, and still empowers.

Why talk about it?

Talking about what you want when that time comes supports your loved ones.

Conversations about the life you want and the care you need from the time of diagnosis of a terminal illness can ensure you receive the all-embracing end-of-life care you want.
