This November, we’re acknowleding the importance of men’s health in honour of Movember. Men’s health often flies under the radar, even at home where much of the day-to-day preventative care happens. When carers assist a male client, they’re often the first to notice and report small changes: energy levels, appetite, mobility, mood. Those little clues are gold. They can help catch issues early.

Movember is a good excuse to talk straight about the habits that keep blokes well. Many men grew up being told to dismiss or handwave discomfort, so regular check-ups sometimes fall to the bottom of the list. Having Luxe Care’s dedicated carers in the home can help normalise making appointments, establishing routines and make appointments or check-ins feel less like a chore and more like standard upkeep.

Our carers can assist with:

  • Helping clients stay active, offering encouragement and providing basic mobility assistance

  • Monitoring hydration and assisting with meal preparation/observation

  • Medicine management, scheduling and observation

  • Simply providing friendship, communication and check-ins for men living alone

In recent years, society has come around to the very serious issue of men’s mental health. We now understand just how important mental health is in maintaining overall wellbeing. Luxe Care’s companionship carers are here to help clients experiencing loneliness or isolation. They can encourage safe ways to stay connected, arrange calls with family, arrange or help plan outings, transport to or from a hobby group, or help with cognition, mood and confidence. Loneliness is sneaky and needs to be taken seriously. Sometimes just having someone to talk to can make all the difference.

Other home care services we can provide include:

  • Transport to and from doctor appointments. Our carers can also wait with the client at the appointment if they would feel more comfortable having someone there.

  • General health checks or wound care from Registered Nurses.

  • Reminders and scheduling to ensure appointments or other time sensitive issues are attended to.

  • Arranging access to external contractors such as physiotherapists, podiatrists or ordering daily living and mobility aid items.

Supporting men’s health in the home is a steady blend of company, practical help and gentle nudges toward good habits. Movember shines a spotlight on it, but the real work happens year-round, in familiar homes, with carers who notice the small things and assist the client to act before they grow into big things.
